CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina coach Larry Fedora says the school is working with the family of an incoming recruit arrested on a serious criminal charge to determine his future at the school.
Wake County court records show Avery Edwards of Wake Forest was arrested for felony larceny Thursday by sheriff's deputies. The 18-year-old tight end had seven touchdown catches last season as a senior at Ravenscroft High School, a private academy in Raleigh.
In a statement Friday, Fedora called Edwards "a good kid who made a terrible mistake." He said he met with Edwards and his parents following the arrest.
Fedora said the university's admissions office is aware of the charges and school officials are working with the Edwards family to determine "the proper protocol moving forward."
