NC State has accepted a bid to play SEC opponent Vanderbilt in the 2012 Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl at LP Field in Nashville on December 31. Kickoff is scheduled for noon (eastern time) and the game will be televised by ESPN.
“We look forward to hosting the teams, fans, coaches and administrators from North Carolina State and Vanderbilt at our 15th annual Bowl, in a matchup that hasn’t occurred since 1946. We are proud of our affiliation with the ACC and SEC and hope everyone from NC State and Vandy will enjoy all that Music City has to offer over the New Year’s weekend,” said Scott Ramsey, president and CEO, Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl.
The Wolfpack (7-5 overall, 4-4 ACC) is looking for its third straight bowl win and is one of only 12 programs that has won two bowl games in a row.
“Nashville is a unique city with a tradition all its own,” said State Director of Athletics Deborah A. Yow. “The Wolfpack will enjoy becoming familiar with it and appreciate its charm.”
This will mark the Pack’s 27th all-time postseason appearance (14-11-1).
Vanderbilt stands at 8-4 on the season, including 5-3 in SEC play. The two teams have a pair of common opponent this season, as both faced Tennesee and Wake Forest. The Pack downed the Demon Deacons at Carter-Finley, 37-6, on November 10. Vanderbilt closed out its regular season with a 55-21 win at Wake Forest. NC State started its season with a loss to Tennessee in Atlanta, and Vanderbilt downd the Vols 41-18 at home.
The Pack and Commodores have met only once before, with Vanderbilt winning on their home field 7-0 in 1946.
“The team is very excited about this opportunity to play one more game,” said quarterback and team captain Mike Glennon. “Nashville is a great town and we’ve heard that they really put on an exciting bowl week. We are planning to work hard and have fun and end our season on a positive note against a quality opponent.”
