Love Named C-USA Co-Pitcher-Of-The-Week


GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina junior Reid Love was named Conference USA Co-Pitcher-of-the-Week following his complete-game shutout against instate rival North Carolina the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Love tossed his second complete-game shutout of the season on Tuesday, April 29, defeating the Tar Heels 1-0. The Dunnellon, Fla. native scattered five hits over nine innings of work, striking out a career-best seven hitters without a walk.

The left-hander faced 33 batters (six over the minimum) and allowed just one runner past second base. He retired the leadoff batter in eight of nine frames, the first two batters in seven stanzas and retired the side in order three times (third, seventh and ninth frames).

Love, who helped the Pirates take the season series from UNC for the first time since 1994, became the first Pirate pitcher in school history to toss a complete game shutout against the Tar Heels. He is the first ECU hurler with two shutouts in the same season since Seth Maness in 2011. Love also recorded one out on Sunday against FIU in league play, bringing his weekly totals to 9.1 IP, 0 R, 6 H, 0 BB and 7 K.

On the season Love owns a 4-3 record in 13 appearances (10 starts) with a 2.73 ERA in 59.1 innings pitched. He becomes the third Pirate this season to earn C-USA Weekly honors following Jeff Hoffman (Mar. 3 & Apr. 21) and Charlie Yorgen (Mar. 31).
