Hurricanes Sign Dvorak To 1-Year Contract

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Hurricanes have signed veteran forward Radek Dvorak to a one-year contract.

General manager Jim Rutherford said Wednesday that Dvorak will make $600,000 at the NHL level or $125,000 if he is sent to the minors. He will receive a guarantee of at least $250,000.

Rutherford says Dvorak "has shown us throughout training camp that he can contribute" to the team, and says his versatility gives coach Kirk Muller options with the lineup.

The 36-year-old Dvorak has played in 1,200 career NHL games, and came to Carolina's preseason camp on a tryout basis.

He split last season between Anaheim and a team in Switzerland, and had four goals in nine games with the Ducks.
