College scouts came out to one eastern Carolina recreation center to check out local high school talent.
Around 40 high school teenagers put their skills to the test at the NC Rise Roundball Classic at Eppes Recreation Center on Saturday.
Organizers with scoutsu.com organized the event and was also comprised of officials with the National Basketball Scouting Service.
Scouts were on hand to evaluate the talent and skill level of each player.
We’re told the first initiative is to get kids off the couch and active, saying Pitt County has a high obesity rate.
“The second initiative is to give college exposure, or to find the hidden jewels, the hidden talent in this area and give them an opportunity for exposure so we can promote them to other colleges,” said scoutsu.com representative Bershuan Thompson.
Officials say Pitt and Lenoir community colleges had talent scouts on hand. Officials say they will also send newsletters out to other college programs as well.
