Greenville Team Helps Cancer-Stricken Teammate

The Pitt County Pirates 13 and under Babe Ruth baseball team is looking out for one of its own.

The squad held a seven-team tournament over the weekend to raise money for Shemar Jordan who is receiving chemotherapy treatments in Durham for osteosarcoma in his leg.

Greenville-native and current Colorado Rockies pitcher Alex White attended the tournament Sunday afternoon and gave Jordan several pieces of memorabilia, including a signed baseball.

All proceeds from the tournament went to the Jordan family.

Donations are still being accepted at the little bank locations. Checks can be written to Mary Catherine Christopher in regards to Shemar Jordan.

My son and I spent the day there. Glad to see all the support for such a great young man. Alex was fantastic. Best wishes to Shemar and his family.
