ECU's Vliegen Makes School History

Joran Vliegen became the first player in school history to win the ITA Carolina Region singles championship today with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over North Carolina's Brett Clark and in doing so he clinched an automatic berth to the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York Nov. 7-10, another first for the ECU program.

He posted a 7-0 record during the 5-day event, defeating a pair of top-25 ranked opponents. He defeated the nation's fifth-ranked player Romain Bogaerts of Wake Forest in the quarterfinals and No. 22 Michael Redlicki of Duke in the semifinals.
