IRIVING, Texas --- East Carolina senior guard Akeem Richmond was named Conference USA Player-of-the-Week by a media panel representing the 16 member schools. It is his first C-USA Player-of-the-Week honor of the season and second of his career. He was also honored with the same accolade on Feb. 25, 2013.
The Sanford, N.C. native averaged 26.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 50 percent behind the arc in two games last week.
He posted his third 30-point game of the season with 31 points - 23 in the second half - against UTSA to lead the Pirates to their first C-USA home win of the year, snapping a five-game skid in Greenville. In that game, Richmond set the school record for most free throws made without a miss, going 15-for-15 at the charity stripe against the Roadrunners. He became just the fifth player in Division I this season to make at least 15 free throws without a miss and is the fifth player in C-USA history to accomplish that feat.
Against UTEP he buried six 3s to break his own ECU single-season record of 105. Richmond has made 111 3s through 24 games this season, second most in the NCAA, and leads all Division I players with an average of 4.63 per game.
With his 10-for-20 performance from beyond the arc last week, Richmond moved up to No. 24 on the NCAA all-time list with 372 career 3s.
