GREENVILLE, N.C. – Coming off of a 20-win season and a WNIT appearance, the East Carolina women’s basketball team will look to continue its success with the release of the 2013-14 season schedule Wednesday which features 15 home contests and two tournaments, one of which will be held at Minges Coliseum.
The Pirates, who are led by fourth year head coach Heather Macy, will face a pair of teams that made the 2013 NCAA Tournament in Conference USA Tournament champion Tulsa and Middle Tennessee, along with six squads that competed in the WNIT.
After finishing the 2012-13 season with a 22-10 overall record and an 11-5 C-USA ledger, ECU will open the 2013-14 campaign with four consecutive home contests beginning with Virginia Intermont Friday, November 8. The Pirates will then play host to George Mason (Nov. 10), William and Mary (Nov. 15), and Loyola Maryland (Nov. 17), before traveling to Elon for their first road contest of the season on Saturday, November 23.
The ECU Pirate Thanksgiving Tournament will be held at Minges Coliseum Friday, November 29 and will conclude Sunday, December 1. East Carolina will welcome IUPUI and Cleveland State for the three-team annual tournament.
Following the tournament at Minges Coliseum, the Pirates will head to Monroe, La., to compete in the ULM Warhawk Classic on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14. ECU will take on Alcorn State during the first day of the tournament, before battling it out with either Grand Canyon or host, ULM, on day two.
Prior to winter break, ECU will travel to Norfolk State on Tuesday, December 17, before hosting Ohio University Friday, December 20. After the hiatus, the Pirates will close out the non-conference schedule on the road with a pair of contests at Bethune Cookman (Dec. 29) and College of Charleston (Jan. 2).
East Carolina will kick off conference action Wednesday, January 8 at Minges Coliseum when it plays host to league newcomer Florida Atlantic. After the initial C-USA contest, the Pirates will head to FIU (Jan. 11) and Tulane (Jan. 15), before returning to Greenville to welcome LA Tech (Jan. 18) and Rice (Jan. 22).
The 16-game conference schedule will send ECU to Southern Miss (Jan. 25), before the Pirates go up against Old Dominion (Jan. 29) and Charlotte (Feb. 1) at Minges Coliseum. East Carolina will travel to Marshall (Feb. 5), UAB (Feb. 8), UTSA (Feb. 20), and UTEP (Feb. 22) with a home contest against North Texas (Feb. 15) added in the mix.
The Pirates’ final home contests will be against Middle Tennessee (Feb. 26) and Tulsa (March 1), before closing out the regular season at Old Dominion on Wednesday, March 5.
The Conference USA Championship will be held in El Paso, Texas, with UTEP as the host, beginning March 11 and concluding March 15.
