GREENVILLE, N.C. - The kickoff time for East Carolina's non-conference contest against South Carolina, scheduled for Sept. 6 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, has been set for 7:00 p.m. (EDT) to accommodate a live ESPN2 or ESPNU national television broadcast according to a joint announcement from the Southeastern Conference and American Athletic Conference Friday.
The Pirates' road opener marks the fifth game on ECU's 2014 schedule which has been designated for national airing thus far, joining Virginia Tech (ABC/ESPN/ESPN2), UConn (ESPNU), Cincinnati (ESPN2) and UCF (ESPN).
While East Carolina has captured four of the last six contests in Columbia dating back to 1992, South Carolina has enjoyed the upper hand since the series was renewed with a 56-37 neutral site win at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium in 2011 and a 48-10 triumph at Williams-Brice Stadium in 2012.
Head coach Steve Spurrier's program ended the 2013 season ranked No. 4 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches' Poll after posting an 11-2 record and 34-24 victory over Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl.
East Carolina, which will play its inaugural campaign in the AAC this fall under fifth-year head coach Ruffin McNeill, was 10-3 in 2013 and successfully completed the Pirates’ seventh postseason appearance in the last eight years with a 37-20 win over Ohio in the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl.
The remainder of East Carolina’s kickoff times will be announced once other television broadcast schedules have been finalized.
