GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Sophomore Benton Moss was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 17 as announced by the league office.
The Tar Heels’ Moss earned his league-leading fifth victory of the year Saturday night as he carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning against No. 29 Miami.
Moss matched a season high with nine strikeouts in the win as he surrendered just two hits over seven scoreless innings, leading top-ranked UNC to even up the conference series, which it would eventually win on Sunday.
Moss has registered at least 7 strikeouts in each of his starts this season and ranks fourth in the ACC with 39 strikeouts this year.
The Enfield, N.C., native and former Rocky Mount High School star is also holding opponents to a .174 batting average through his 31 innings of work, the fourth-lowest mark in the ACC heading into the third week of conference play.
