Backup NC State DT Transfers To East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina State defensive tackle K'Hadree Hooker is transferring to East Carolina.

East Carolina spokesman Tom McClellan said Friday that Hooker has enrolled in school.

N.C. State coach Dave Doeren said after practice that the redshirt freshman sought a transfer because he "was just buried on the depth chart."

Doeren says he spoke to Pirates coach Ruffin McNeill on the player's behalf. The 6-foot, 307-pounder will sit out this season and have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2014.

Doeren says he granted Hooker's request to leave for East Carolina because by the time he is eligible to play for the Pirates, they won't be on the Wolfpack's schedule.

Hooker's hometown of Kinston is about 30 miles from East Carolina's campus.
