ECU Basketball Player Arrested In Florida

An East Carolina University basketball player has been arrested in Florida on felony battery charges.

Darius Morales, a rising red-shirt Sophomore, is charged with third degree felony battery, inflicting great bodily harm.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WITN News, Orange County Sheriffs responded to a report of a fight at 12289 University Blvd., Knights Library. When deputies arrived on the scene, the victim, Tyler Yoho, had already been taken to Florida Hospital East.

An off duty deputy working at the business said he saw Yoho leave the Knights Library bleeding badly with a laceration on his face.

According to witness statements, Yoho was dancing with a woman when her ex-boyfriend confronted Yoho. Witnesses then say Morales punched Yoho in the face. According to a witness, Yoho identified Morales as the man who punched him in the face.

Morales was arrested and taken to jail. He was booked at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 18th and placed under a $2,500 dollar bond.

Morales, an Orlando native, played in 25 games for the Pirates basketball team as a red-shirt freshman this past season.

WITN has contacted the ECU basketball team for comment. At this time, they have not issued a statement.
