Mountaineers Head Into ECU Game Off Big Win


Steve Slaton and Noel Devine combined for 273 rushing yards as fourth-ranked West Virginia whipped Maryland 31-14 at College Park.

Slaton ran for 137 yards and three touchdowns as the Mountaineers easily improved to 3-and-0. Slaton has 41 career touchdowns, one short of the school record.

Devine ran for 136 yards on five carries, including 125 yards on his first three touches. He had runs of 31 and 76 yards that put the Mountaineers on the Maryland one-yard line each time. Slaton scored on both possessions.

Quarterback Pat White scored WVU's first touchdown just 45 seconds into the game.

Keon Lattimore ran for 80 yards and a TD for the 2-and-1 Terrapins.
