East Carolina shot a school-record team total of 842 to capture the Mid Pines Intercollegiate team title Tuesday afternoon and earn its first tournament championship since 2005 and first championship away from its home course since 2002.
Senior Chris Ault and sophomore Tanner Briele finished tied for third with a 54-hole total of seven under-par (209). Both Ault and Briele recorded the best 54-hole scores of their career with Ault earning his sixth top five finish and Briele his first.
Junior Andre Thorsen fired a four-under par (212) to earn a sixth place finish, while classmate Markus Leandersson and sophomore Tripp Brizendine each shot a one-under par (215) to finished tied for 10th.
Freshman Warren Straub made his collegiate debut and shot a 54-hole total of 220 (+4), while senior Anthony Reale finished with a final tally of 233.
The Pirates finished the tournament seven strokes ahead of 2007 Colonial Athletic Association champion Old Dominion.
After beginning the day two strokes behind ODU, ECU shot a 283 on the final 18 holes to overtake the leader. The Pirates trailed the Monarchs by two strokes following the opening round before firing a 12-under par 276, the second lowest 18-hole team total in school history, during round two to pull within two shots of the lead.
East Carolina will next compete at the Raines Development Intercollegiate in Florence, S.C. beginning Monday, September 17.
