Southern California remains the top team in the
weekly Associated Press top-25 college football poll. But the
Trojans' lead is dwindling.
Second-ranked LSU, fresh off an impressive and lopsided win over
Virginia Tech, is now just 12 points back of the Trojans. Overall
Southern Cal was given 40 first place votes while the Tigers were
given 25. That's an increase of 19 from last week for LSU.
Rounding out the top five are Oklahoma, West Virginia and
Florida. The second five are Texas, Wisconsin, California,
Louisville and Ohio State.
The second ten features UCLA, Penn State, Rutgers, Nebraska,
Georgia Tech, Arkansas, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Oregon and
The bottom-five are Boston College, Tennessee, Georgia, Hawaii
and Texas A&M.
Appalachian State, the big winner of the week last week with
that win over Michigan, didn't crack the top-25 but did receive 19
votes. That places the Mountaineers between Auburn and Cincinnati
in the, "others receiving votes" section of the poll listing.
