ECU: Harris To Giants, Cubs Draft Harrington, Marlins Pick Up Maness

It took 1,428 picks before ECU outfielder Devin Harris finally heard his name called in the Major League Baseball Draft as the San Francisco Giants picked him up in the 48th round.

Harris had been taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 8th round in 2009 before electing to come back to East Carolina for his junior season. Harris was second on the team in home runs (13) and rbi's (53).

The Chicago Cubs drafted former Pirate shortstop Dustin Harrington with the 15th pick of the 34th round.

Harrington was the 1,030th player taken overall and the second Pirate following Kyle Roller who was selected by the New York Yankees in the 8th round.

Harrington started 25 games before being dismissed from the team for violating university rules. He had a batting average of .443 (47-for-106) with five home runs, 21 RBI and 31 runs scored, all among the team leaders when he was dismissed.

ECU ace Seth Maness was picked up in the 41st round. The staff ace for the Pirates earned C-USA pitcher of the year honors after going 10-3 on the season with a 4.17 era. Maness struck out 90 batters on the season.

A pair of ECU recruits were also taken on the third and final day of the draft. Shortstop Jack Reinheimer of Ardrey Kell High School in Charlotte was taken in the 31st round by the Atlanta Braves. Right handed pitcher William Chrismon of Menchville Hiigh School in Virginia was taken in the 32nd round by the Houston Astros.
