Mountaineers Riding Wave Of Success

The Labor Day weekend in Boone is usually overrun by tourists heading to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

But thanks to Appalachian State's stunning win over No. 5 Michigan on Saturday, the town is now overrun with reporters. The New York Times, Sports Illustrated and others have been scrambling to do stories on the Mountaineers.

Chancellor Kenneth Peacock says the school wouldn't be able to buy the publicity that has come over the last few days.

Though Appalachian State has won consecutive titles in the lower-tier Football Championship Subdivision, the team garnered little attention outside the immediate area. But pulling off perhaps the biggest upset in college football history has put Boone on the college football map.
