The Carolina Panthers have placed quarterback Brett Basanez and two other players on injured reserve to help get the roster down to 75 players on the NFL's mandatory cut date.
Basanez was contending for the No. 3 quarterback job when he
suffered a season-ending injury to his right wrist in Friday's preseason loss to New England.
The Panthers placed defensive end Rondell Biggs on injured reserve, while receiver Josh Davis, who underwent an appendectomy during training camp, was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list.
The Panthers also waived injured receiver Justin McCullum and running back Marlion Jackson.
The Panthers must get to the regular season limit of 53 players by Saturday afternoon. Carolina opens the regular season Sept. 9 at St. Louis.
