Green Bay - The Green Bay Packers have released former ECU punter Ryan Dougherty despite an outstanding camp and preseason. Dougherty averaged 46.3 yards on 8 punts, landing 2 of them inside the 20 with just one touchback. Dougherty was brought in to camp to push starter Jon Ryan who averaged an impressive 48.5 yards in 11 attempts. Dougherty will most likely get picked up in the next week by a team in need of a punter who can also kickoff.
Released Friday were center C.J. Blomvall, wide receiver Carlton Brewster, fullback Erryn Cobb, punter Ryan Dougherty, defensive end DeVon Hicks, cornerback Antonio Malone, quarterback Ingle Martin, guard Pat Murray, running back P.J. Pope, linebacker Juwan Simpson and tight end Joe Werner.
