MacKenzie Struggles At The Barclays

Rory Sabbatini attacked Westchester
Country Club on his way to an 8-under 63 for a one-shot lead over
Rich Beem and K.J. Choi after the opening round of the Barclays
tournament outside New York City.
Greenville native Will MacKenzie has some work to do on Friday after firing a 2-over 74. He's tied for 96th place overall.
The Barclays is the first of four tournaments that comprise the
PGA Tour Playoffs, a new concept this season.
Tiger Woods is the Number 1 seed, but decided to sit out this
tournament.
This format also offers hope for the long shots, and Beem took
advantage. The former PGA champion is at Number 134 with no
guarantee of playing next week outside Boston. Only the top 120 in
the standings after The Barclays advance to the "second round."
Beem likely will need a top 12 at Westchester to keep playing.
Ernie Els, a two-time champion at Westchester, shot a 6-under 66
that put him in the group with Steve Flesch, Carl Pettersson and
Brian Gay. They're all two shots off the lead.
