Kinston Blasts Frederick 12-0

Frederick - K-Tribe starter Frank Herrmann pitched eight shutout innings as the Indians blanked Frederick 12-0 Sunday afternoon in Maryland. Herrmann (10-6) went a season high eight innings, giving up six hits while striking out four and not walking a batter. Herrmann becomes the fourth K-Tribe pitcher to win ten games this season joining Ryan Edell (11-6, 3.48), Kevin Dixon (10-4, 3.69) and Jim Deters (10-3, 2.00). This season is the first time since 1988 that Kinston has had four ten game winners in a year. In 1988, Kinston won 88 games, sweeping both the first and second halves of the season in route to their first Carolina League title since 1962. The four pitchers with at least ten wins that season were: Mark Gilles (11-8, 3.60), John Githens (11-6, 3.19), Todd Gonzales (11-5, 3.26) and Kevin Bearse (10-8, 1.31).

Kinston got the bats going in a big way today bashing out 15 hits and scoring at least one run in seven different innings. The K-Tribe enjoyed a 4-for-4r day from John Drennen, with home runs from Matt Whitney and Armando Camacaro. The K-Tribe had two hits a piece from Jose Constanza, Whitney, Camacaro and Dustin Realini. Leading 6-0 in the top of the eighth, Kinston blew the game open with five runs, sending 11 men up to the plate. Keys starter Brandon Erbe (6-8) was saddled with the loss for Frederick, losing for the third time to Kinston this season.

The K-Tribe returns to Kinston for the final home stand of the season starting Monday at Grainger Stadium. Kinston sends Jim Deters (10-3, 2.00) to the mound, game time 7pm.
