Kinston’s Josh Rodriguez is the Carolina League Player of the Week after going 9-for-29 with five home runs and nine RBI. Rodriguez started the week off with a bang, hitting a home run in four consecutive games Monday-Thursday at Myrtle Beach. Rodriguez also carried another streak into the week, gathering at least one RBI in eight straight games; beginning on August 2nd when he tallied nine RBI in a game against Lynchburg. Rodriguez is now ranked third in the Carolina League in both home runs (17) and RBI (72).
The Rice University product is the third K-Tribe player this season to receive a weekly award from the Carolina League. Chris Gimenez took Player of the Week honors in May and David Huff took Pitcher of the Week honors for the last week in April.
The K-Tribe has the second best record in all of Minor League Baseball with a 74-42 overall record. In the second half of the season, Kinston is in first place in the Carolina League Southern Division with a 29-18 mark. The second place Salem Avalanche visits Grainger Stadium for a six game in four day series with the K-Tribe starting today. Monday’s double header starts at 5pm.
