K-Tribe Pitchers Throw Shutout

Kinston pitching cranked out their third shutout in the last five games, blanking Myrtle Beach 2-0 Tuesday night at Grainger Stadium. Sung-Wei Tseng, Ryan Edell, Neil Wagner and Scott Roehl combined for the three-hit shutout. Tseng (4-7) got just enough runs for win number four on the season, pitching five innings and giving up just three hits. The K-Tribe bullpen took care of the rest, not allowing a hit and walking just one batter in the final four innings of the game. Roehl pitched a perfect ninth inning for his Carolina League leading 19th save of the season. In the month of July, Roehl is 1-0 with an ERA under one and a perfect 8-for-8 in save opportunities.

Kinston got the only run they needed in the third inning, when Jerad Head led off the frame with a walk. Jose Constanza laid down a bunt to advance him to second and Brian Finegan got Head to third with a single. Stephen Head then hit a flare to center field that went off the glove of the Pelicans Jordan Schafer, scoring Jerad Head from third. Kinston added a run in the sixth inning, when Matt Whitney led off with a walk and later scored on a two-out double by Armando Camacaro.

The Southern Division leading K-Tribe is now two games ahead of second place Myrtle Beach in the second half of the Carolina League season. The final game of the third game series is Wednesday night at Grainger Stadium. K-Tribe pitcher Steven Wright will take the mound for Kinston at 7pm.
