MLB Trades Made Before Deadline

RED SOX-RANGERS:
Boston gets: RHP Eric Gagne (2-0, 16 saves, 2.16 ERA). The
31-year-old righty and former NL Cy Young winner will serve as the
setup man for Jonathan Papelbon. The AL East leaders also have
All-Star Hideki Okajima in the bullpen.
Texas gets: LHP Kason Gabbard (4-0, 3.73), minor league OFs
David Murphy and Engel Beltre and cash. Gabbard filled in neatly
for injured Curt Schilling.
------
BRAVES-RANGERS:
Atlanta gets: 1B Mark Teixeira (.297, 13 HRs, 49
RBIs) and LHP Ron Mahay (2-0, 1 save, 2.77 ERA). At 27, Teixeira is
a switch-hitter who once hit 43 home runs, an All-Star and a Gold
Glove winner. Mahay gives the Braves their only lefty reliever.
Texas gets: C-1B Jarrod Saltalamacchia (.284, 4HRs, 12 RBIS), and four minor
leaguers -- SS Elvis Andrus, LHP Matt Harrison, LHP Beau Jones and
RHP Neftali Perez. Saltalamacchia, who will soon start for Texas,
and Andrus were Atlanta's top two rated prospects before the
season.
------
BRAVES-ROYALS:
Atlanta gets: RHP Octavio Dotel (2-1, 11 saves in 14 chances,
3.91). Limited for two years by an elbow injury, he bounced back
this season as Kansas City's closer. He joins a talented bullpen to
set up Bob Wickman.
Kansas City gets: RHP Kyle Davies (4-8, 5.76). He spent most of
the season in Atlanta's rotation but was demoted to the minors this
month. He'll start for the Royals.
------
DODGERS-YANKEES:
Los Angeles gets: RHP Scott Proctor (2-5, 3.81). A main man in
Joe Torre's bullpen, he pitched 52 times this year after making an
AL-high 83 appearances last season.
New York gets: INF Wilson Betemit (.231, 10 HRs, 26 RBIs). He
played mostly third base, but has spent time at shortstop and
second base.
------
PADRES-ASTROS:
San Diego gets: 3B Morgan Ensberg (.232, 8 HRs, 31 RBIs) and
cash. An All-Star in 2005, he injured his right shoulder in June
2006 and has never regained his form.
Houston gets: A player to be named or cash.
------
PADRES-BRAVES:
San Diego gets: LHP Wilfredo Ledezma (3-1, 4.79 ERA with
Detroit; 0-2, 7.71 ERA with Atlanta) and minor league LHP Will
Startup. Ledezma helped the Tigers reach the World Series last
year, but faltered this season, was traded to Atlanta and then cut.
Braves gets: LHP Royce Ring (1-0, 3.60 ERA in 15 games). A hard
thrower, he split time between the majors and minors. Atlanta
assigned him to Triple-A Richmond.
------
PADRES-WHITE SOX:
San Diego gets: OF-INF Rob Mackowiak (.278, 6 HRs, 36 RBIs). A
valuable player off the bench, he spent the first five years of his
career in the NL with Pittsburgh.
White Sox gets: Minor league RHP Jon Link. The 23-year-old was
2-1 with 13 saves and a 3.07 ERA for Class A Lake Elsinore.
------
PIRATES-GIANTS:
Pittsburgh gets: RHP Matt Morris (7-7, 4.35 ERA). A 22-game
winner for St. Louis in 2002, the Pirates hope he provides a
veteran presence for their young staff. They'll pay the rest of his
$10 million-plus contract this year, give him $9.5 million next
season and a $2 million bonus.
San Francisco gets: CF Rajai Davis (.271, 2 RBIs) and a player
to be named. Promoted from the minors last month, Davis saw limited
time with the Pirates. At 26, he might get a chance in the Giants'
aging outfield.
------
PHILLIES-MARINERS:
Philadelphia gets: RHP Julio Mateo (1-0, 3.75 ERA). An effective
reliever for several seasons, he hasn't pitched in the majors since
being arrested in early May after allegedly assaulting his wife.
Seattle gets: Minor league INF Jesus Merchan. He was hitting
.330 with seven homers and 44 RBIs for Double-A Reading.
------
CARDINALS-RED SOX:
St. Louis gets: RHP Joel Pineiro (1-1, 5.03 ERA) and cash. A starter for most of the last six years, he pitched 31 times in relief this season before getting sent to Triple-A last week.
Boston gets: A player to be named.
