The Atlanta Braves are on the brink of acquiring slugging first-baseman Mark Teixeira from the Texas Rangers.
According to a person familiar with the deal, Atlanta would send rookie catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and three minor leaguers to the Rangers for Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay.
Teixeira is hitting .297 with 13 homers and 49 r-b-i's in 78 games. He would add pop to a position the Braves have had trouble filling since Adam LaRoche was traded to Pittsburgh in the offseason.
Saltalamacchia has also played first base in Atlanta while backing up starting catcher Brian McCann. Saltalamacchia was batting .284 with four homers and 12 r-b-i's.
Mahay has appeared in 28 games for the Rangers going 2-and-0 with one save and a two-point-77 E-R-A.
