Arizona Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin says Randy Johnson will
undergo season-ending back surgery next Friday, the third back
operation of his career. Melvin says the lefty tried to work his way through it without any success.
It marks the second year in a row that Johnson has undergone back surgery.
The 43-year-old Johnson was traded to the Diamondbacks from the New York Yankees in the offseason. The four-time Cy Young Award
winner made his way back to the rotation after extensive
rehabilitation. He had several strong starts but struggled in his later outings before he was diagnosed with a herniated disk.
