Kansas City Royals outfielder Emil Brown hit a local television reporter near the eye with a pellet from a small plastic gun in the team clubhouse this afternoon.
K-M-B-C reporter Karen Kornacki was interviewing shortstop Tony Pena Junior before the game when she felt the pellet hit near her left eye, according to station assistant news director Gary Roberts. A Royals spokesman says Brown didn't mean to shoot Kornacki, calling it an accident.
Kornacki ended the interview and left the locker room immediately. An assistant team trainer treated Kornacki and gave her an ice pack.
Roberts says Kornacki was to see an eye doctor, adding he didn't think she was seriously injured but was certainly a little shaken by the incident.
Brown started in left field tonight against Texas. A Royals spokesman says the team apologized and is investigating the incident.
