Appalachian State Picked To Win SoCon Title

Looks like Appalachian State can expect another strong football season.

Southern Conference coaches pick the two-time defending national
champions to win the conference football title again this year.

The Mountaineers got all seven available first-place votes to top the poll with 49 points. The coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Appalachian State finished 14-and-one last season and beat Massachusetts 28-17 to win the N-C-A-A Football Championship
Subdivision title.

Furman, which qualified for the N-C-A-A playoffs last fall, got the other first-place vote and finished second with 43 points.

Wofford was third, followed by Georgia Southern, Citadel, Elon,
Chattanooga and Western Carolina.

The media also selected Appalachian State to win the Southern
Conference title, giving all 27 votes to the Mountaineers.
