Kinston - The K-Tribe wrapped up a series win with a 9-3 victory over the Frederick Keys on Sunday afternoon in Kinston. Trailing 3-2 in the fifth inning, Kinston batted around to score four runs in the bottom of the frame. Josh Rodriguez led off the inning with an infield single. After Max Ramirez was hit by a pitch; John Drennen tied the game at three with an RBI single, driving home Rodriguez. After a Nathan Panther single loaded the bases, Mike Butia hit a two-out, two RBI single, giving Kinston a 5-3 lead. Jerad Head closed the inning with and RBI of his own, driving home Panther. Kinston would add three more runs in the sixth inning, with RBI from Max Ramirez, Drennen and Butia. Drennen went 2-for-4 with three RBI, snapping a 2-for-15 slump. Ramirez went 2-2 with two walks, while Butia tallied three RBI on the day.
Kinston’s Chris Niesel (2-0) got the win for the K-Tribe, giving up three hits and no earned runs in three innings of relief. Neil Wagner finished up the game for the K-Tribe, going two innings and giving up just one hit. Steve Wright started for Kinston, going four innings and giving up three earned runs on three hits. Brandon Erbe (6-5) took the loss for Frederick, giving up five earned runs in four plus innings.
The K-Tribe now hits the road for a week long, two-city road trip. First up Kinston heads to Woodbridge, Virginia to visit Potomac. Game one of the three game series starts Monday night at 7:35pm. Frank Herrmann will take the hill for the K-Tribe.
