Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl has agreed in principle to a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the university through 2013. It increase his compensation package to one-point-three (m) million dollars this year.
The 47-year-old Pearl has revived the Volunteers' men's basketball program, which has reached the N-C-A-A tournament twice in as many years. The Vols made it to the round of 16 last season after going 24-and-11 in regular season play and earning a second-place finish in the S-E-C.
Pearl was already scheduled to get a 100-thousand-dollar bump in
salary to one-point-two (m) million dollars next season under his old contract. Scheduled raises in future years will take him to one-point-seven (m) million for the 2011-2012 campaign.
His new contract contains a "loyalty bonus" of 500-thousand dollars if he stays through the 2009-2010 season with another 500-grand bonus due after the 2012-2013 season.
