Jose Maria Olazabal has withdrawn from the British Open less than 48
hours before the opening round at Carnoustie.
The 41-year-old Spaniard says he's nursing an injury, but the specifics of his problem have not been made available.
First alternate Tom Pernice Junior of the U-S is traveling to Scotland to replace the two-time Masters champion in the field.
Olazabal won the Masters in 1994 and again in '99. He has finished third in the British Open on two occasions, including two years ago at St. Andrews.
