Tignes, France - Denmark's Michael Rasmussen won today's eighth stage to take the overall lead in the 2007 Tour de France.
The event's best climber each of the past two years earned the
third Tour stage victory of his career on the second second day of
grueling ascents in the Alps.
Rasmussen crossed the finish line alone on the 102-mile course
featuring three tough Category One climbs and an uphill finish.
Spain's Iban Mayo was the runner-up -- two minutes and 45 seconds
Rasmussen takes the race leader's yellow jersey from Linus
Gerdemann. The German held it for just one day after a stage seven
victory. Rasmussen has a 43-second lead over Gerdemann and a
two-minute-39-second gap over the third-place Mayo.
