Defensive end Dwight Freeney has signed a long-term contract with the Indianapolis Colts. The deal makes him one of the N-F-L's highest paid defensive players.
His agent, Gary Wichard, says the contract is worth 72 million dollars and covers six-years.
Freeney had been designated as the Colts' franchise player in
February, which would have kept him with the club for at least one
more season. The two sides faced a Monday deadline to sign a
long-term deal before this season.
Freeney was a first-round draft pick in 2002.
