Ball State men's basketball coach Ronny Thompson has told the school he will resign after going 9-and-22 in his only season with the team.
The university has said Thompson and his staff broke N-C-A-A rules by being at voluntary offseason team workouts two months ago and last summer. The school said the coaches lied about their involvement in the May violations.
University officials say Thompson sent a letter to the university today indicating his plans to resign.
Last month, notes including racial slurs and insults were slipped under the office doors of Thompson and other staff members. The university was investigating the source of the notes.
Thompson is a son of Hall of Fame coach John Thompson and the brother of Georgetown coach John Thompson the third.
