Jones-Rose Golf Classic Comes to a Close

Robert Hoadley of Southern Pines, North Carolina and Meghan Moore of Bahama, North Carolina won the Overall Boys and Overall Girls titles in the Roy Jones-Clarence Rose Junior Golf Classic Presented by BB&T and Goldsboro Builders Supply held at Kinston CC and Walnut Creek CC Tuesday and Wednesday, July 10-11.

Bahama’s Meghan Moore won the overall girls championship and the Girls 13-18 division with a two round total of 147. Moore entered the final round at Walnut Creek CC with a three stroke lead over Wilson’s Amy Otteson and Wendell’s Ashley Denton. Moore fired a two over par 74 to extend her victory to five strokes over Otteson. High Point’s Madison Overbey fired a two round total of 157 to take home third place.

Hoadley’s final round three under par 68 at Kinston CC led the way to victory in the Boys 15-16 division and the Overall Boys title. Hoadley, the number 3 ranked junior golfer in North Carolina overtook first round leader Wilson Day in the Boys 15-16 and overall leader Bo Andrews with his final round effort. Rich Leeper beat Day on the first hole of a playoff for second place at 147 in the Boys 15-16.

Despite a final round 75, Bo Andrews of Raleigh won the Boys 17-18 in a playoff with Greenville’s Adam Stephenson. Andrews won the playoff on the third hole over Stephenson. Both golfers were tied at 143. David Sechrest of Reidsville shot a final round 70 for a 146 total. He beat Jackson Taylor on the first playoff hole for third place.

High Point’s Davis Womble fired a final round 73 to hold off a fast charging Andrew Decker of Greenville in the Boys 13-14 age division. Decker fired a final round of two under par 70 to finish two strokes behind Womble. Womble’s two day total of 141 was two strokes better than Decker and five strokes better than Washington’s Joshua Chandler.

Greensboro’s Chandler Upchurch fired a two day total of 79 to win the Boys 11-12 division for the second year in a row. Upchurch defeated Kinston’s Riley Davis by one stroke. Wilson’s Michael Otteson finished two strokes back with an 81.

Garrett Wickline of Beulaville captured the Boys 8-10 division and Wilson’s Bailey Elizabeth Davis captured the Girls 10-12 division.
