The Charlotte Bobcats say they've signed their first-round pick from this year's draft to a rookie contract.
The team took Jared Dudley with the 22nd pick after he was named
Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year following his senior season at Boston College.
Dudley averaged 19 points and eight-point-three rebounds for the
Eagles last season. The Bobcats plan to use the six-foot-seven, 219-pounder at both small forward and power forward.
According to a person close to the negotiations, the Charlotte Bobcats and Matt Carroll have reached agreement on a six-year pact. N-B-A rules prevent official contract announcements before July eleventh.
The Bobcats signed the long-range shooting specialist out of the
league's developmental league midway through the 2004-2005 season
and he quickly became a key contributor. Carroll averaged nine points in 25 games to close that season, then seven-point-six points the following year.
Last season, the six-foot-six guard earned a starting job midway
through the season and averaged a career-high 12-point-one points
while shooting 42 percent from three-point range.
Carroll is expected to sign the deal when he returns from a trip to China.
