Dave Blaney has given Toyota its first pole in the Nextel Cup series, turning in the top qualifying speed for the Lenox Industrial Tools 300. He turned a fast lap of 129.437 m-p-h at the New Hampshire International Speedway to give Toyota one of its few highlights in its first NASCAR season.
The bad news for the auto maker is that Brian Vickers was disqualified when his car failed to post-qualifying inspection. Officials say it was too low on the left side. That left Toyota with only three of its seven cars in the 43-car field.
Kurt Busch qualified second in his Dodge. Reed Sorensen, Johnny Sauter and Juan Pablo Montoya round out the top five. Series points
leader Jeff Gordon qualified seventh.
