After two straight days of rain outs, Kinston got back on the diamond and beat Frederick 3-2 Wednesday night. K-Tribe starter Kevin Dixon (5-3) picked up his fourth win in his last five starts, giving up just three hits and one earned run through five and two-thirds. Mike Finocchi came out of the bullpen and into trouble in the sixth, but struck out Frederick’s Mark Fleisher with two on and two out. Finocchi pitched two and one-third innings, giving up one hit and no earned runs. Matt Meyer racked up save number two on the season, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

With Frederick leading 2-0 in the top of the third inning, Kinston’s Josh Rodriguez hit a one-out single. After a double by Chris De La Cruz, Rodriguez scored on a Carlos Perez wild pitch. Stephen Head got De La Cruz home from third on a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game at two. After a Chris Gimenez walk, Max Ramirez hit a two-out, RBI double to score Gimenez from first. It proved to be the winning run as Kinston won their second straight game. Wes Hodges went 2-for-4, the only K-Triber with multiple hits on the night. Key’s starter Perez (5-7) took the loss for Frederick.

Kinston will be back in Frederick Thursday for game two of the three game series. Sung-Wei Tseng will take the mound for the K-Tribe for the 7pm start. Kinston infielder Cristo Arnal was sent to short season A Mahoning Valley today to make room for Matt Whitney, called up from Low A Lake County. Whitney spent all of last season with the K-Tribe.
