Kay Yow has ended chemotherapy and is instead undergoing hormonal treatments to fight cancer. The result is a boost in energy.
North Carolina State's Hall of Fame basketball coach says the hormone treatment is so much better than the chemotherapy. She says the chemotherapy zaps your energy and results in what she calls side issues.
Yow says it's a lot better to be able to do something without feeling short of breath and tired.
Treatments forced her to miss 16 games last season, but her return invigorated the program as she led the Wolfpack to an emotion-fueled run to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game and into the NCAA tournament.
N-C State upset second-ranked North Carolina on a night in which the Reynolds Coliseum floor was renamed "Kay Yow Court." The Wolfpack also gave top-ranked Duke its first loss of the season in the A-C-C semifinals and won two N-C-A-A tournament games to reach the round of 16 for the first time since 2001.
