Jonathan Ingram finished a double shy of the cycle as Western Carolina eliminated East Carolina 9-to-5 at the Chapel Hill Regional.
Ingram's two-run homer in the third put Western Carolina ahead to stay and helped the Catamounts (42-19) beat E-C-U for the first time in 30 years.
Ingram also singled in the second, tripled home a run in the fifth and finished with three R-B-Is.
The Catamounts advance to face North Carolina tomorrow. They need two wins over the top-seeded Tar Heels to advance to the super
regionals as a number three seed. The Tar Heels are the only team
without a loss in the double-elimination regional.
Stephen Batts homered, doubled and extended his school-record
hitting streak to 29 games for second-seeded East Carolina (40-23).
