The K-Tribe erased a 6-1 deficit to come back and beat Wilmington 10-8 Wednesday afternoon. After an 11 AM start Kinston trailed 6-2 going into the sixth inning, before the bats finally woke up. Stephen Head doubled home Chris De La Cruz to cut into the Wilmington lead. Michael Aubrey singled home Head one batter later, making the score 6-4. After a Johnny Drennen single, Chris Gimenez got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Josh Rodriguez hit a grand slam home run to put Kinston up 8-6. It was the 5th home run of the year for Rodriguez and the first grand slam by a K-Triber this year. Rodriguez also had two sacrifice flies, going 1-for-2 with six RBI. Kinston added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, when John Drennen scored on a throwing error to third and Chris Gimenez scored on the second Rodriguez sacrifice fly.
Dan Cevette (1-0) picked up his first win for Kinston, coming in from the bullpen to throw two innings of one hit ball. Kinston (30-21) stays in first place in the Carolina League Southern Division, heading out on a seven day road trip on Thursday. Kinston will start the trip tomorrow at Potomac, sending David Huff on the mound for the 7:35 pm start.
