Contract Extended For Williams

Roy Williams

North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams is getting more than a pat on the back for another outstanding season. He's got a new four-year contract extension that will keep him with the Tar Heels program through the 2014-2015 campaign.

North Carolina went 31-and-7 last season, shared the Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title, won the league tournament and advanced to the N-C-A-A East Regional finals, where the top-seeded Tar Heels lost in overtime to Georgetown.

Williams, who signed an eight-year contract to coach his Alma mater before the 2003-2004 season, will make up to one-point-eight million dollars each year plus incentives based on his team's performance, not only on the court but in the classroom as well.

Williams will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in September. He's 106-and-30 in four seasons at North Carolina and 524-and-131 in 19 seasons with the Tar Heels and Kansas. He won his only national championship at Carolina in 2005.
