Mount Olive Jumps to #10 in Division II Poll

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Mount Olive earned its first top 10 national ranking in seven years, jumping two spots to No. 10 in this week’s Collegiate Baseball Division II Top 30 Poll, it was announced Monday. The Trojans, which were ranked as high as No. 3 during the 1999 season, last cracked the top 10 in 2000.

One week after winning the 2007 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Baseball Tournament, Mount Olive (46-11 overall) wrapped up regular season play Saturday with a doubleheader sweep over Chowan. The Trojans are 28-3 in their last 31 games, dating back to March 10.

The Trojans picked up a season-high 328 points in the poll, placing 26 points behind No. 9 Central Missouri and 10 points ahead of No. 11 Grand Valley State (Mich.). Kutztown (Pa.) took over the No. 1 spot. Mount Olive is one of six South Atlantic Region teams ranked in the top 30.

Mount Olive is currently ranked No. 1 in the South Atlantic Region Poll and has a chance to host the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional is the Trojans maintain their No. 1 ranking. The regional is slated for May 17-20, with selections scheduled to be announced May 13. The regional champion advances to the NCAA II National Finals May 26-June 1 at Montgomery, Ala.
