K-Tribe Takes Care Of Pelicans

K-Tribe third baseman Wes Hodges drove in five runs as the K-Tribe pounded the Pelicans 7-3 at Grainger Stadium Saturday night. Hodges went 2 for 2 with a single, triple and two sacrifice flies. Kinston banged out a season high 12 hits as Kinston took two of three games from Myrtle Beach. K-Tribe first baseman Stephen Head went 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Josh Rodriguez racked up two hits and also scored three runs.

Kinston trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Hodges knocked a two-out triple to the wall, scoring Head and Rodriguez. Two innings later, Hodges struck again, with an RBI sacrifice fly to put Kinston in the lead for good. Kinston reliever Jeff Stevens (2-0) picked up the win, giving up one hit and no runs in two innings of work. Jim Deters and Scott Roehl combined for two innings of no hit ball. The Kinston bullpen now has a combined ERA under one.

The K-Tribe (8-5) has an off day on Sunday, before continuing the home stand with a four game series against Lynchburg next Monday through Thursday. On Monday night, Kinston starter Frank Herrmann (1-0, 0.00), will get the start for the K-Tribe. Herrmann is one of the Carolina League leaders in pitching. First pitch 7pm at Grainger Stadium.
