The Lenoir Community College Men’s Basketball team erased a four point deficit in the final sixteen seconds of regulation to force overtime, but eventually fell to Catawba Valley Community College 99-92 Sunday afternoon in Kinston.

With time ticking away, former Kinston Viking Willie Flowers hit a three pointer with eight seconds left to cut the Catawba Valley lead to one. After the Buccaneers hit one of two free throws, former Jacksonville Cardinal Darian Martin drew a foul in the lane with 2.8 seconds left. Martin then hit both free throws, tying the score at 87 and sending the game into overtime.

It was a game of runs in the second half, as LCC expanded a 47-46 halftime lead with a 10-0 run to start the half. The Buccaneers responded with a 15-0 run of their own later in the half, as the two teams traded leads.

Garfield Wilson led all scorers with 27 points for Catawba Valley. Pamlico Hurricane product Braelyn Blount paced LCC with 18 points. Gerald Smith (First Assembly Christian in Harrisburg, NC) had 16 points for LCC.

The Lancer’s next game is December 2nd at Sandhills Community College. Their next home contest, and only home game in December, will be Saturday, December 5th at 2pm against Vance-Granville Community College.
