Stephen Batts and Corey Kemp combined for seven RBI as East Carolina swept the day-night doubleheader Friday night with a 13-3 win over Marshall at Appalachian Power Park.
Already leading 2-0 in the third inning, ECU (24-12, 6-5) put a seven spot on the board courtesy of Kemp and Batts to take a 9-0 lead and never looked back. Kemp plated three runs with a bases loaded double to right field off of a Brian Chrisman fast ball. David Forbes led off with a single to left, which was followed by a sac bunt by Harrison Eldridge, who reached on a fielding error by third baseman Matt Helm. Forbes and Eldridge advanced on a wild pitch before Dale Mollenhauer drew a walk to load the bases setting up Kemp’s at-bat.
Batts connected on his second home run of the season a grand slam to left center pushing the lead to 9-0. With Kemp standing on second base, Wood and Schieber each drew walks to load the bases for Batts round tripper.
Dustin Sasser improved to 4-2 on the season after tying a season-high with seven innings of work. He scattered seven hits, allowed three runs (two earned) with four punch-outs and one walk before giving way to Chris Powell, who retired all six batters with three strikeouts to preserve the win.

Trailing 9-0, Marshall pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning cutting into the Pirates lead. Josh Valle singled to center to start the frame, then moved to second on Nick Damas’ walk and scored along with Damas on Tommy Johnson’s double to right-center. Blake Sanders reached on a fielding error by Batts that scored Johnson from second closing out the inning.
The Pirates extended their lead to nine, 12-3, in the sixth inning behind RBI singles by Forbes and Kemp and a RBI double by Mollenhauer.
