Jacksvonville - Former NFL quarterback Jim McMahon was a big hit at the media day for the 4th Annual Marine Corps Celebrity Golf Classic. He and playing partner, WITN Sports Director Billy Weaver participated in the Media Day tournament at Paradise Point aboard Camp Lejeune Tuesday.
McMahon has become one of the loudest voices for the Celebrity Classic which raises money for several charities including Disabled Sports USA, USO, Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, and Hope for the Warriors. McMahon has visited Iraq recently and says his work with disabled veterans is more rewarding than anything he has done on the football field. "I went to Iraq in december and spent 5 days there with the guys who are coming off the battlefield. Its amazing, the morale and the spirit over there was."
The Classic tees off June 6th and runs through the 10th at Paradise Point as well as Jacksonville Country Club. Celebrities include McMahon, former vice president Dan Quayle, actor John Ashton, ECU football coach Skip Holtz, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox and former major league baseball pitcher Mike Trumbley among others.
