Kinston second baseman Brian Finegan hit a two out double in the top of the ninth inning, driving in two runs and giving Kinston the lead in a come from behind 5-3 victory at Winston-Salem. Down 0-2 in the count, Finegan drove the next pitch into the gap in right center giving Kinston (1-0) a 4-3 lead.
Mike Butia drove Finegan in with a single to center one batter later. Finegan’s heroics were made possible by a Winston-Salem (0-1) error earlier in the inning. With one out, Warthog third baseman Javier Castillo booted a Head grounder.
The next batter struck out and Nathan Panther drew a walk, setting up Finegan’s heroics. Kinston’s starting pitcher, David Huff, gave up just one hit in his Carolina League debut. Reliever Jeff Stevens, retired all nine batters he faced in three innings of work.
Scott Roehl picked up the save for Kinston. The K-Tribe has now won nine games in a row, dating back to last September.
