After helping East Carolina increase its winning streak to 13 games, Pirate junior OF Harrison Eldridge has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week. The league’s Pitcher of the Week honor went Houston freshman LHP Wes Musick, who had a career-best outing in the Cougars shutout win at UCF on Saturday.
Eldridge batted .533 (8-for-15) on the week and helped the Pirates to a perfect 4-0 record, including a sweep of Memphis in Conference USA play and its 13th consecutive win. In three of his four games played, Eldridge collected two hits and scored two runs, while pushing his career multi-hit games to 43. In all, he scored eight runs from the lead-off spot in the batting order, had three RBI, four doubles and two walks, raising his batting average to .358, which ranks third on the team.
Musick led the Cougars to victory during the middle game of the UCF series on Saturday. He tossed a career-best eight innings for the second straight start, posting a UH season-best 10 strikeouts for the second time in his last three starts. Musick struck out at least one batter in each of the first six innings and in seven of the eight innings that he worked. He scattered five hits and allowed just one walk. Musick retired 10 of 11 batters early in the game as the Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead after four innings and remained strong throughout the game, putting down eight of the last nine batters that he faced.
